A Heartrending article, indeed.

Agreed, Aaron. It doesn't end Israel's war against Palestine, or even Israel's war on Gaza. But the people need to be able to breathe, eat, count and bury their dead, get the wounded evacuated and get hospitals and homes rebuilt. A friend of mine is fond of the saying "other things are also true," and I feel like this is one of those times.

Iโ€™m afraid that Israel wants Gaza (and much more) and they will not stop this genocide until we stop them. They cannot be trusted. Itโ€™s a trick.

I certainly think it's true that Israel's war on Palestine is far from over (indeed, will never end until the Zionist project ends and Israel evolves into a single secular democratic state for all (by another name). And I agree that they will only do this if it works in their interest. However, the IDF is losing a lot of soldiers these days to the Al-Qassem Brigades, protestors in Israel are fighting directly with the police, and some IDF soldiers are threatening to lay down arms if a ceasefire is not reached. So there are reasons Israel might see this in their interest. Who knows what political promises Biden and Trump have made Netanyahu. We've already heard Trump is going to gift the West Bank to Israel, which will involve a tremendous amount more Palestinian bloodshed and ethnic cleansing because Israel wouldn't dream of granting citizenship to such a large number of Palestinians. That would be a demographic bomb, in their eyes, which would go off within a generation. So, my optimism is tempered by a lot. And I think right now, the only people making any headway with stopping the genocide of the Palestinians are the Palestinians, and, to a lesser but notable extent, the people of Yemen.
